Science Olympiad
Successful Oak Valley Middle School’s Science Olympiad program is run by the parents. Kannan Raj, kannanraj@gmail.com is the coordinator of the 2o12-2013 Science Olympiad Program at Oak Valley Middle School. This program emphasizes problem solving aspects of science and the understanding of science concepts. It helps students to increase their interest in science and achieve their full potential.

Reflections
The PTA Reflections Program 2011-2012 program theme is,
2012-2013 Theme: “The Magic of a Moment…”
The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of the arts in education
Students may submit an entry in any of the six arts areas listed below. Only original works of art are accepted.
The six arts areas are as follows:
Literature
Musical composition
Photography
Visual arts
Dance Choreography
Film/Video Production
All entries submitted must be original works and must relate to the annual Reflections Program theme. Each entry must be the work of only one student. Assistance from teachers, parents or friends is not permitted except in special cases (such as for those with visual or physical disabilities) Participation encourages creativity and exploration. Students should do their best, but crooked lines, incorrect musical notes, or misspelled words do not disqualify anyone.

Art Corps
A comprehensive, developmental curriculum which teaches artistic fundamentals by bringing process-oriented, hands on art experience to the classroom. The success of this program depends upon parent volunteers who are trained in workshops to teach art in the classroom. Over the past years our experience has shown the program provides students with a cumulative set of skills and experiences.

Open for all grade levels. The kick-off meeting for Parent Partners will be TBD. Please have all your forms filled out. For more information please contact claudiadeney@gmail.com or ask your child’s teacher.
Oak Valley Giving Tree
What can you do to help?
Adopt a family. Anonymous wish lists are available for each family.
- Provide gift cards for gas, grocery and discount stores.
- Donate new and unwrapped toys and games, including for older children.
- Write a check. Checks can be made payable to Palomar Council PTA; the full amount of the donation will be provided to families in need.
If you are interested in supporting this important program, please contact Palomar Council’s AAF Chair. The response from our community determines how many families we can invite to participate.
Important Program Dates
November: Family Wish Lists will be distributed to participating PTA Units and community donors.
Late November to early December: Adopt-
Mid December: Gifts will be delivered to families.

Red Ribbon Week/Drug Awareness/Making Good Choices/Personal Empowerment/ Character Building & Parent Education Nights
Highlights drug and alcohol awareness, promotes healthy choices based on character pillars and help for parents. This year Red Ribbon Week will be held from October 23-31, 2012. More information to follow.
